Can speakers, which are made to be upright, be hung sideways.  I have some tall speakers I want to get off a 'shelf' and hang them but need to be sideways.  What would be the negative in doing this?

Are they the JRX125 model? They have a 90 x50 degree horn coverage. If you turn them sideways, you'll get the 90 on the vertical. That will probably cause too much sound going to the ceiling. That can cause all sorts of problems with unwanted reflections. The 50 will be the horizontal which may not be wide enough for your room making it hard to hear at the sides.

That is exactly what they are.  If they are angled enough for the 90 degree, will that not work for the mids and lows?  The 50 degree may not be wide enough to cover the room, but it's only the center of the room that really needs it.  Knowing they're a 90 degree angle, I'm wondering if we can hang them upright at the side walls, turning them in enough to catch the middle areas and outsides.  Our downfall is having the sound hitting the middle of the room right at the stage, so that the house sound is louder than the stage sound.  (This is a youth room and our teens like to be right at the stage area).

That's a good argument against flying them.

Hanging any speaker (or anything) that isn't designed to be hung can be done . . . . but probably shouldn't be without consulting an mechanical engineer.  Is your building (or structure) safe to hang speakers from?  Are you certain?

The pattern control on any horn as small as, and shaped as those are, will "flip" at a certain frequency.  At almost no frequency will it actually be 90 x 50.  That just the nature (physics) of small rectangular horns.

I believe there was a 'F' version of the JRX that was rated to fly. But you're still looking at $100-$150 per speaker for all of the eye bolts, cable, shackles, etc. 

Can you afford to replace these with something nicer?

We have a pair of Yorkville yx15p just sitting around.  If I'm able to use those, they are smaller, so would work fine with hanging upright.  The JBL's are too tall to hang upright (low ceiling), which is why I would like to flip them sideways.
