Wondering how that curve was arrived at.  My own hearing loss is a much steeper roll off.  At 60 up to 10k is still fine dropping off around 14k.  Could still hear 18k at 50.  Tinnitus rather than HF loss caused me to start protecting my ears in my 40s but they'd still had more abuse than the regular Joe on the street.

I recall reading an article a few decades ago about researchers who travelled deep into the borneo jungle and measured hearing response of natives who weren't exposed to modern civilization's industrial noise levels. The tribe's elders had much younger hearing curves than expected for their age.

I worried about the Sony Walkman generation pumping high SPL into their ear buds.

And the kids reading this who don't know what a Sony walkman is.

I'm beyond that, and am very aware that I have very limited top end, and that the mix is supposed to sound dull, not bright.  If it's bright, I'm killing people.

Trick is to listen to reference tracks one has known for years on systems one trusts, and preferably has also been in one's life for years, so one knows what the overall tonality is supposed to be.

I've got mostly the opposite problem - I can still hear a pin drop, but I don't like it much louder than that.  Loud shows sound bad because my ears are overloading.

Ever been told that silly thing about getting rid of excess reverb by running really loud and "overpowering the room"? Turns out if you overload your ears you can't hear the reverb.

Did a show a bunch of years ago in a seniors residence.
It was a 50's era tribute band. Kind of a mini big band kind of thing.
I was talking to the band leader beforehand, and we agreed to put some serious boost in the high end. Painful for me, but the seniors had a blast. Many complimented the band leader on the quality of the mix.
EVERYONE hat the hearing aids out.
Never thought I could go that loud with a bunch of white/blue hairs.
It was fun to see them "boogie around" the dance floor.
Quite invigorating to me, to see a bunch of 80 and 90 year olds acting like teen-agers.

walkmen weren't so bad due to the on-ear headphones (relatively), the damage really started when they came out with earbuds!

Although I figure the boombox and walkman era was really good at destroying the 3-6 kHz range due to thats the only range those devices would get loud in.
I always laughed at the term "boom" box as the "ghettoblasters"of the day really only screeched when you turned them up, -bass response was what you expect from an open-backed plastic box with 12-watt amps!

And all that 3k hearing loss made all the JBL rigs from that era actually sound great!
