One hand for the pocket.

Actually, you might be on to something there.  If that isn't two left hands doing the work, the right hand appears to be over on the left (hard to tell because the titles are over top of it).

That explains a lot of things I've found in home-owner electrical work.

But it's not a basic 15A TR. It's an AFI.

And you just started an argument that will never end by saying it's upside down. ;)

Well, one of the earliest patents on outlets, by Philip F. Labre, clearly show the ground pin up.

The March 7, 1961 patent by Saul Slater also shows the grounding pin up.

Most of the other patents through the 50's and 60's by Hubbell, Westinghouse, etc, show the duplex on it's side, so there's no clear indication there which is up or down. So, given those two earlier references- I would say ground pin UP is correct.

... that's how all my Motion Labs RackPacks are... ;)

wow
staring at the pictures so hard I forgot to read!
-and thats a decent price for one of those then

The only argument is what you get from the customer after you've installed a receptacle that appears to them to be "upside down"

I have no idea where I read this, but supposedly in California it is code that the ground pin is up, the reason being that for example your desk is against a wall with the outlet, and something like a paperclip slips off the back, if the ground pin is down the paperclip would short the hot and neutral, whereas if the ground pin was up it would simply drop to the side.  Shall we move on to the great TP quandry??? (insert smileys to taste.)

I am just having fun here.  If you look at the printing on any outlet, it is clear that the ground pin needs to be up to read it.  Also most commercial installs and hospitals have the ground pin up.  I don't think it matters.  This is America. If it did it would be the law. (code)

No debate is needed. Per the original patent #459,516 application, toilet paper is hung with the paper folded over towards you.

Frank, I did see that one, but it appeared to have something involved with 'protecting debris from getting into the grounding pin," so I thought maybe it was something OTHER then just the basic duplex outlet.

... amazing how many permutations (separate patents) can arise from such a basic (at least so considered now) object!
