I had a SC Si Compact do exactly the same thing.  Sound passing but all controls non-functional.
Luckily on the last song before an act change.
It finished the show after re-boot.
I ended up sending the board back to SC for repair.
Never did find out what they did to fix it.

Recently my Vi1 froze during a show, the console was still passing signal I just couldn't make any changes. Luckily it was durning the encore. Afterwards I shut down and restarted the console and got an error message that said "operating system not found" Anyone else have this issue? Advise?

I had an extremly similar issue with my Vi1.  Turned out to be a faulty SD card.  Audio passed just fine but saving/recalling/etc was not possible.  Soundcraft was more than helpful and overnighted a new card w/os.

The first thing I would have done would be to throw it into a computer and pull an image off of it.   I mostly work with SC48's and I now carry an SC48 survival kit.  Torx bit, stubby Phillips driver,  replacement memory, and a HDD with a fresh image (and my plugin's of course).

Same here. Sent me a new compact flash hard drive and talked me through the easiest way to access the card. Took about 20 minutes and it helped to have a set of helping hands.

This is not the first time I've heard of this. Seems to be a a reality end users easily recognize, but designers not so much. I'm not aware of any consoles with user swappable hard drive bays, RAID1 or etc. These features are pretty common on workstation class hardware in other sectors. It's an interesting issue.
