Wifi and ground plane

Band came in yesterday with a new qu mixer with n a plastic case. The had a wifi router installed inside with two antenna on BNC s mounted on the plastic.

Made me wonder if the performance was degraded by not having a ground plane.

The antennas probably don't expect a ground plane.

If 1/4 wave, yes they do but if 1/2 wave, no they don't.

...and given that, by my math, the wavelength of a 2.4 GHz signal is ~5", I'm guessing that whatever antennas you saw, they were at least 1/2-wave...

opinion here      most likely the wifi is a control device for the ipad or iPhone or other smart phone to control the mix. 
Digital control of the mix will not impact the sound quality.  The person driving the mix will be in question.

I suspect Jay was referring to the performance of the WiFi system rather than the performance that the audience came to see  ;D

Yes it was a monitor system, at extremely short distances even for wifi.

While it was impossible to tell about the he length of the antenna as they were encased in plastic, I suspect the 1/2 wave vs. 1/4 wave argument is the answer.
