We haven't had feedback issues in a long time.
We don't have anyone even semi-qualified running sound since my church is small. I was "volunteered" to do it because I am the most techie person at my church. The last guy running sound was going deaf. His idea of running sound was to turn on the sound equipment and walk away. Anyway, I'm doing my best in learning the basics of running church sound. There seems to be a lot of resources out on the Web.
We haven't had a professional stop by at all to examine my sound system. What I'm going to do, though, is call a local company and have them check out and give maintenance to the main speakers.
Call more than one company, ask for references...
