I am using an ATEM television studio switcher with a couple of gopro cameras for a high school musical. HMDI out of the gopro to SDI to the switcher. We setup the switcher for 720p to accommodate the gopros. It works perfectly for what we need.

Now we want to add another camera to the switcher. The camera we have only outputs 1080P from its HDMI. Are there any interfaces that can "downgrade" the 1080P output to 720P?

Please forgive my misuse of video terms, I'm more of an audio guy.

You need a "scaler".  My understanding is the TV Studio doesn't scale, so it is the user's responsibility to have all the inputs in the same format.

Warning: be sure you are sitting down before googling for prices of scalers.

Probably cheaper and easier to just buy another GoPro

ImageProHD is probably the de facto for this type of duty; can also handle light switching between sources.

ImagePro Jr. is latest model, I think, and yes, they're not cheap.

Most cameras can scale their outputs internally, or at the CCU; why not check there first?

Data Video DAC-70.  Other units in the DAC line up may do what you need at a lower cost.

Keep in mind that scaling will add a few frames of latency. Some scalers have more, some less. The DAC70 has too much latency when used for imag.

Check your manual for the camera.  I believe you can change the output.

John, unfortunately, I can only get the camera to output 1080i or 1080p. It is a Canon HF G10.

A friend gave me a Decimator MD-HX to try. It scales the camera output to 720p 60.

It does exactly what I need it to do. It does add a few frames of latency like Sean said it would. But the latency won't matter for my purposes.
