John, what is the distance from stage to mix, is it line of sight, and what's your budget?  Also note there is a "wireless and comms" sub-forum here that might get you a better response. Maybe you could ask a mod to move the thread....

Hey, thanks, I never noticed the sub-forum. Anyway, I'd like something approx. $350.00 or so for the pair. Distance is generally no more than 150 feet with decent line of sight.

How long do you expect it last.  Duplex?  For 350 you might be able to find some used on eBay to do a wired connection.  Other than some crappy FMRS radios... Not sure what exists in that price range that is reliable

For reference, 4 wireless beltpack and a base station, pro level, costs about $15,000 to $18,000...  So I'm not trying to bust your chops, just wondering if that decimal place in your budget was a mistake.

John,
I think it will be easier, cheaper, and more reliable for you too look into a wired intercom handset system with blazons.

You can get a pair of second hand professional radios from one of the many emergency forum sites for around what he's wanting to spend.  The only possible issue I foresee is the radios interfering with equipment, but 99% of the time with good quality equipment you don't have that issue.  We use a set of Kenwood Protalk radios with open ear headsets and rarely have any issues.

Which is why I asked about duplex or half duplex.  Obviously you would potentially have to get a FCC license too

2-way radios with aviation headsets, like pit crews wear?  More like $350/each rather than per pair though.

Take a look at Unity intercom which uses iPhone/Android/Mac or PC clients

$500 for server with 3 clients
$200 for each hi noise headset

Try out the demo system I have been using. Mac and iPhone Client shown
