I have seen the Yammy PM5K on tour in the last couple of years, although a Heritage 3K is the most common analog desk.  IIRC there might have been a Gamble, too.  The story I heard said Yamaha built a bunch of 5K, but sold less than 200 world wide and there are still new-in-crate 5K mixers in a Yamaha warehouse in Japan.  Not sure how true that is, as I wasn't asked to sign an NDA...

Company I freelance for had 2 of them in their shop for years, we took them out on the occasional festival but other than that they never worked much.

Just the mention of HLA makes my eye twitch come back!

My addition would be those Yamaha monitors from the 80s with the silver horn, white speaker and cardboard cabinet construction.
I was fixing those non stop on tour!

EAW UMX.96

Wow.

Soundcraft Europa. Wouldn't fit across a truck.

While commercially successful, what about Carver PM1.5?

Soundcraft Europa. Some road crew wouldn't even try lifting it....

Big and heavy..  I can just picture Bill Collins and I pushing that monster up a 25deg slope for the Budwizer festivals in Michigan 20+ years ago.  I was a lot stronger then...    Or maybe dumber..

Some interesting times getting one inside a few venues in Europe.

Some interesting times getting one inside a few venues in Europe.

So the Europa didn't work well in Europe?  Nice.

Most people have hit my favorite choices, with the infamous Europa being probably at the top of my list.  The Ramsa SX-1 [i think i remember that model number right] is another white elephant that comes to mind.

But what about some not so great design choices on otherwise excellent products?

The Push/Pull Pre/Post knobs on the Gamble EX56.

The brilliant 'Console Stand' on the ATI Paragon

The 'rigging' on the EAW KF860 [ask me how i know]

The Yamaha PM2000 had inserts that ran at something screwy like -14dBv.  I forget exactly what but it was like huh?  I know it's a really early desk so maybe that's not fair.  but still.

Others?

For a few years, Soundcraft reversed the send/return configuration of their insert sockets.

This confused me when I built a valve/tube mixer for a friend as all of his inserts were in the wrong configuration and I couldn't work out why my carefully and repeatedly checked wiring didn't work.

Do they not still do that?
