Waves has announced their new eMotion LV1 software based live sound console.


Based on their SoundGrid system, comes with up to 64 stereo channels and runs on industry standard control surfaces (I wonder which ones those are?).


I wonder when they are going to bring it full circle and release their own control surfaces?

The concept of being able to mix all with Waves plugins is bound to appeal to many, however, having taken a quick look the system looks a little bit convoluted and you need quite a lot of "stuff" to get it complete, i.e. soundgrid server, input boxes, a computer to run the software, another if you want to record and possibly hardware controllers.  In real terms I think you also need to buy the plug packs so all in all it's looks like its not a low cost option.  A quick glance seems to suggest that $5000 gets you in, but you need mic amp rack with Madi and some plugin bundle and a computer so I guess the cost is north of $12,000 realistically.

Looks to be another take on the Software Audio Console.  It would be pretty sweet if it would work with any ole preamps, and ran native plugins on a regular computer.

This was introduced at Infocomm 2013.  Interesting that it's now being introduced by Waves in 2016.

I was wondering the same thing. I also wonder what this is going to do to their relationships with DiGiCo, Yamaha, A&H, etc.?  I wonder if they shopped the idea to any of the major companies before making a deal with Peavey/Crest. We are in interesting times!

Most software companies are facing a harder time.  So many products from so many manufacturers all competing.  The truth is that even some of the "also ran" players now make quite useable software and a decent engineer can produce excellent results with almost any of the major players programs.  The fact that people like Microsoft, Avid, Adobe and quite a few others are now working towards rental models suggests that they see this as the only way of preserving revenue.  Waves have been producing "packaged" plugins (I'm talking about the all in one CLA drums, guitar channels, etc) for the last few years and they are still marketing very aggressively, (weekly fire-sales, bundle deals).  Other less active, smaller companies have gone to the wall.  We are getting to a situation where the number of plugins available almost outweighs the various types of application needs.

Having being a fairly early adopter of ITB mixing, I've used more plugins than I care to remember, I find that I tend to use less and less these days.  For example, the latest version of PT 12 HD covers about 90% of all my plugin requirements.  I just cherry pick a few bits like specialist effects.

Has Waves, or anybody else, recently mentioned the Tactus system as soon-to-be-available WSG compatible I/O? I can't find any info about Tactus other than that 2014 press release and some trade show videos, the latest being early or mid 2015?

I'm excited about the notion of LV1, but madi I/O with no in-the-mixer preamp control isn't very usable in a LOT of live situations. IOX/IOC boxes are fine, but with that we're getting awfully pricey for a touch screen only console. I was really hoping a Tactus would be a more cost effective/elegant way to get to higher I/O counts.
