Streaming HD Video and audio across building
« on: December 16, 2015, 07:53:09 PM »

Hi all,

I've been presented with a situation where I need to get video from FOH nearly across the building without using cable or the buildings internal networks, the room I need to cast into is through 3 solid concrete walls so im stumped on what to do. Any suggestions would be great thanks!

Depends on the quality needed.  If low rez skyp or face time is good enough then just do it over a cell phone connection.  If they want real video with out any access to infrastructure or a cable path then walk away.  At a minimum you need a piece of fiber, cat5, or RG6 coax.

If they are willing to let you use a dry net work line or empty conduit run then that opens up options.  I doubt you will get decent results with RF and 3 cement walls, but I don't do much with video over RF.

When you say you can't use the buildings internal network, does this mean you can't webcast it using Skype or similar?

This is an impossible task without running some kind of cable. Even if you intend to do this with point-to-point wireless you'll need to run a cable up to an antenna.

If you can get on their network, there are many companies that make IP encoders. You could either point a web browser to the IP address of the stream, or buy a relatively inexpensive decoder which would allow a TV to 'tune in' to the IP stream.
