Ever glue your IEC connectors?
« on: November 10, 2015, 03:38:19 PM »

Anyone ever glue in the power cords with IEC connectors? We have occasional issues with the cords coming loose from the cheap fixtures. I'm not a fan of these connectors for lights but we have them.

We occasionally use hot glue which is easier to remove later on to glue the IEC. Into a device that is buried In a rack that's hard to get at to prevent it coming loose in transit.

I use electrical tape. Wrap it around the outside of the IEC connector until it is very tight when inserted. YMMV

I like this idea - think I will give it a try.  I came close to super glue a few weeks ago, but shyed away.

I have used double sided tape for a long time for all of my plugs in racks. I just push the connectors through the tape and then insert the connector until it forms a good seal with the outlet. Can be removed but never comes our accidentally. You need to use the thicker double sided tape though, not the stuff that's as thin as regular tape.

a bead of silicone sealant around the connector before you plug it in - plug in & let dry. You'll be able to separate them when you really want to, and then it just peels off.

I still don't understand why you're not using iec-connectors, like the one I posted above, or retaining clips that lock the plug into place rather than glueing and other odd solutions?

That aside, I've seen a post somewhere where homemade clip(s) was fastened to the iec to lock the cable in place. Unfortunetly, I don't remember where I saw that post...
