Hi im looking to buy a pa system, to do live sound, and play with a 4 piece rock band, on the street, small venues on restaurants, theaters (500-1000 people at max).

My idea is to use only pa for all, voices, di for the bass, pod for the guitars, and a little of drums in the mix.

I was thinking in something like: Cervin Wega, or other brand: 2x p1500x, 2x p1800x.

Will this work also for hiring as live sound for small venues?

Do any of you, use this kind of setup, do you have any youtube videos?

Thanks.

FIRST of all you need to tell what your budget is AND what it needs to include.

For example-a basic PA will need-Mixer-amps-processing-microphones-stands-DIs-speaker and mic cables-monitors-power cables etc.

The next question is "how loud do you want to be?"

You mentioned "rock band" and 1000 people.

You could easily be looking at $50,000 or more if you want  be loud and use good gear.

You could get by with a lot less money-if you don't need to be so loud and are willing to use lower quality gear.

Sure-you could make noise and be heard to that many people with pretty much any gear-but loudness and quality would be the big question.

You are going to be asked a lot of questions regarding your specific needs. You will need to define your budget. You will also see some very good advise from professional sound tech's that really know their stuff. You are lucky to have this resource,  but you'll need thick skin to get through the process.

How much experience do you have mixing live bands?

Running everything direct through the PA is done by a lot of small modern rock bands around here.  There's a whole circuit of clubs and bands doing this.  It is really rough on a PA though.  You need a lot more PA than if you were just trying to get the vocals over amps and drums and maybe helping out a few things.

So as said, probably the first thing to define is the budget.  Since you asked about Cerwin Vega gear, which is pretty entry level, it's a good bet the budget isn't that great.  The bands that do thing around here are typically running JBL SRX725s over SRX728 dual 18 subs with a rack of pretty healthy amps.  And this is for inside moderate sized bars.  Larger venues or outside takes more to get a similar effect.  That's something like $5k of speakers before you even get to mixers, amps or monitors.  Much less microphones, cables, stands, etc.  It's pretty easy to drop $10k on doing this.

So after that sticker shock sets in, tell the forum what your realistic budget is and folks can give you an idea what is achievable with that.
