Color video camera
« on: November 04, 2015, 05:38:09 PM »

I have a need for a small color video camera. It needs to have output that I can run into a TV monitor (HDMI, RCA, similar).

Give me some leads!

Thanks

Bob

What kind of quality?  If this is to see your driveway then get a weather proof CCTV security cam.  They range from yuck to OK quality but they can see at night if you get an IR unit and wont die when wet.

Some of the HD-SDI units look great and with an adapter can go to HDMI.

[I guess I really did not give enough info....

As it is I'm getting more info from my friend.

The local Elks club is running bingo nights. They need a small camera to display the bingo balls on a couple of large TV sets.

Any ideas?

I would go for a security cam.  They are small and easy to mount.

I've been looking at them. All I find is BNC or cat5 outputs. Do I need to go the route of finding an adapter to go from BNC to composite or HDMI?

Look for a used ELMO document camera. Quite a few features packed in those suckers...

BNC can carry composite or HD-SDI.  All you need is BNC to RCA for a composite camera.  HD-SDI will have a better picture but will require a converter box that will cost from $35 to $500 depending on what you get.  A camera will be one or the other, not both and not normally switchable.

I'd definitely go with a basic analog surveillance type camera. They'll plug straight into the composite input on a display. IP cameras would require much more hardware to connect to a display and much more difficult to configure or troubleshoot.
