Scott, Yorkville LS1208 are 18 inch, not 21. And they are passive, not active. Will all due respect, but "the fact you have to ask demonstrates you don't know all the implications". No offence!

From their specs: Frequency Response (Hz +/- 3dB) 35 - 200

That was a hell of a type.  Same point, though less with the 18, you can go higher.  Without knowledge and sophisticated test equipment that can measure both the frequency and the time domains you are simply making educated guesses.

With a business to run the smart thing to do is not to try and pull off a science fair experiment.

Why bother soliciting opinions if your mind was made up?

My mind was not made up on 920 + LS1208 at the time of asking that question.  But since many people have used this exact setup successfully, I will use it for DJ and anything for small venues, boosting mids of 920 for rock at lower levels. But for mid/large/outdoors I will use 960 which has more low-mids. Unless I find cheap bass cabs for 920s.

While most people use them as subs, 18s will play plenty high.  Everything you heard from Jaco's bass came out of a Cerwin Vega 18 (Acoustic 360 amps) with no top end help.

In fact, as has been pointed out before, many SPL figures quoted on 18" sub cabinets have been at much higher frequencies than they're typically used at.

Also, several people have pointed out that running the subs hot, raises the effective acoustical crossover point.
