The problem with using a standard electrical box from the Home Center (as part of a homemade stringer) is that none of them are listed for the purpose of a temporary cordset.
I should have clarified that I meant proper stage ready stringers not home made.

I repaired my second cheap outlet failure this week. I was measuring 2 mA of current dumping into the ground, energizing all my floating** kitchen appliance grounds, albeit with modest current (enough to feel).

I took it apart and there were a half dozen parts or more, a couple that looked like combination thermal fuses, and several probably over voltage clamps.

I removed and jumpered across the mess...

Works good now, no mo stinger grounds.

** I fixed the floating ground too...

I have chucked away heaps of cheap power boards because they looked old, rattled, did not comply with more recent standards etc.  I have never had one fail an electrical test (eg: continuity, polarity, megger, trip current)
