Thanks Thomas, sigh.... I really prefer 15's but it looks like I'll have to go with the 12's. I'm also very tight on space. These new SRX tops are really getting rave reviews, including the 12's so I'm betting I'll be happy.
The SRX812P out performs the PRX615/715 in every category (except weight).

I put the spec's up side-by-side yesterday and concur. The SRX 12 goes a little louder, higher, and lower than the PRX 15. It is almost the same dimensions, but weighs a fair bit more. Of course this says nothing about the quality of sound that will come from this speaker, which is why I'm relying on user reports.

Recently did a wedding with the 812p/818p. While better sounding and a little more output  than the PRX 612/618xlf they are not, IMHO at the level of ITech 712/718. Love the weight of the passive SRX and a 28 lb amp! For me the passive rig wins. On the other hand the new powered 800 series will be a big hit in my rental fleet.

Can you elaborate a bit?

I have 718's but I use eaw la212 tops (for smaller rooms), and I use ITech amps.
I have tried 712's for tops, but thought they lacked low end.
I was debating 812 passives, but everyone seems to feel that the magic of the srx800 series is in the dsp,  so the powered would be the way to go.  So if curious what you liked better about the ITech and 712 set up?

712's lack low end? They are solid down to 75Hz and are meant to be used with subs for main pa. I use a 12dv octave HP filter (Bessel)  at 90 Hz with a couple ms of delay. Like I said before weight, sound quality and ease of setup is key for me.

I own and regularly operate PRX6/715, as well as SRX812P. When I said the SRX812P out performs PRX6/715 in every category (except weight), that includes sound quality. They are extremely "smooth". I wouldn't bother answering if I were just yanking numbers off of the specs.

SRX8P and SRX8 are both capable systems. If you get Crown ITechHD amplification, the passive SRX8 series is every bit as good as the active SRX8P series. So, if you're sitting on ITechHD already in your inventory, the SRX8 series is cost effective. However, if you'd have to purchase the SRX8 AND the ITechHD, the SRX8P is a much cheaper way to go. You have to decide what is important to you.

Yes, to my ears they were.
Over a set of 718 subs, I thought they left a hole in the low mids....when compared to QSC HPR122, EAW LA212, JBL SR-X4702, JBL SR-X4722 (all crossed at 90)
Maybe I'll give them another listen....

I have regular iTech's (not HD)....and I have a Driverack 260 (that I don't really use).  Both of those are one generation shy of being able to load filters for the new SRX800 series.

I don't plan on selling my amps and upgrading to iTech HD's.  Just not cost effective.  If I couldn't get the 812 passives to sound good with my amps, I'd just buy the powered.

Here's the quandary for me....
Folks seem to love the 712 passives (I believe running them passive, no bi-amping).  But I feel those lack a little low mids.
The 812's seem to have more low mid, which solves one problem.  So shouldn't running them passive (no bi-amp with iTech HD's or Driverack 360) be just as good as the 712's...but with more low mid?  The only way is to get my ears on them.  I'm waiting for some of the pro audio shops in New England to get them in stock.

I had all my rigs, JBL passive and Danley tuned by a pro(someone who does it for a living). I'm also
running first generation ITechs. I have never noticed a lack of low mid in either my 715's, 722's and 712's.

My Danley tops are crossed at 130 Hz and have a ton a of balls in the low mids. It's all about how the system is tuned and deployed.

Jason, out of curiosity when you ran the 712/718 were the tops and subs together? If I run,  say a center cluster sub configuration I might as well throw my tunings right out the window. You may have more even bass response at certain frequencies but IMO it never sounds as tight and together as when subs and tops are near each other.
