PM5D dynamic compression
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:23:20 PM »

Hi guys.

I recently attempted to use the Dynamic Compression effect from the PM5D FX library to tame a 'barky' playback track.
Howevr, it seemed to be acting more like a dynamic expander, and I later verified this using pink noise and an RTA.
The effect metering says that it is gain reducing, but it ain't.
Has anyone else encountered this? Or am I overlooking something simple.

Cheers,
Andy.

Just going from memory here, but if you're speaking of the multi-band compressor, I think the "auto-makeup" gain is non-defeatable and consequently makes that processor pretty useless.

Thanks for the link Andrew.
I had another play around with it, but I would have to agree, pretty useless.

Cheers,
Andy

From reading the attached link, it seems you have to adjust the output gains down to -18 to stop the expanding. No?

That's -18 DBFS, or about +4dBu.
