Ok...used them in a tent full of loud drunk people...500+...and they started to thermal and shut down during the 3rd set.

That sucks. Assuming you had good and ample power in that tent? 

I'll try the mic input and see how that sounds.  The most recent firmware adjusted the line level input to make it louder.

They do sound great.  Just the SPL...  I bought a pair of ART 722a for FOH.  Will give them a whirl.
