Fall Out Boy's sound.
« on: June 30, 2015, 10:16:49 PM »

Heard that Clair rolled out a new sub for them this year.  Supposedly a horn loaded sub.  Anyone hear it?

I believe they are using the new self powered sub, not horn loaded.  We had them out last year for the PA and Sidefills, incredible amount of output for a double 18" box.

Hi Al,

You are correct - we will be unveiling a new product line in the next few months & these new subs are a part of that.  The sub is a self-powered double 18" enclosure that produces AT LEAST twice the amount of output per box as our BT-218 sub while also offering a much deeper low-end extension.  We have been beta testing them in the field on multiple tours, including the Fall Out Boy/Wiz Khalifa tour, with incredible success & highly positive feedback from numerous mixing engineers.  We look forward to sharing more info in the future, so please keep an eye on our website & Facebook page for updates!

Cheers,
JW

Does "twice" mean 3dB or 10dB?

For this little game of numbers, let's assume "twice" the output of a powered sub is what you get when you place an identical sub on top of it and use them both. How many dB would that be?

If the power remains the same (just split between the 2 subs) it will be about a 3dB increase.

If you double the subs and the power it would be around 6dB.

So "it depends".

Kinda basic stuff.

Since we're discussing powered subs, I was poking fun at your options being limited to 3 OR 10 dB.  I liked the 6dB option. Unfortunately, I probably won't be hearing the new Clair box anytime soon.

Justin, I am guessing that it's not the newer kiT Series.  (look like the close to the R2_ & ML18 stuff)

It's a stupid good sub. Really doesn't look like anything special out of the box, but holy hell they're impressive boxes! The whole new line is something else!

If it's the CP218, yes the box has a tremendous amount of output. The box is based around Powersoft IPal technology.
