Doubt with phanton power and ref. signals¡¡
« on: June 23, 2015, 07:44:40 AM »

Hello, i´ve been doing some measurements with smaart at home and i was conecting the measurement mic straight to the sound card (focusrite 2i2). I wasn´t using a sound board to connect everything.  The output is send to a yamaha HS5M powered monitor.

I send pink noise from the smaart generator Output 1 to the powered monitor and  send pink noise from output 2 to the input 2 as a pink noise reference signal.

But i have a doubt¡¡ If i use the measurement microphone on input 1 , i need to send phanton power for the condenser mic, but the sound card sends voltage on both inputs, which means the input 2 is sending voltage to the output 2 of the sound card, which i don´t know if could damage the sound card.

Do you think this could be a problem?????

I do not believe this will be an issue.

Just use a 1/4" to 1/4" patch cable to take the output and feed it to the input, bypassing any phantom power that may be present on the XLR.  Shouldn't be a problem at all.
