Just left the demo room. It's pretty impressive. I was about 12' away and it blurred my vision. The wouldn't give pricing on the sub but he said MSRP on the 'stack' is just under $60k.

The sub has some crazy optical illusion going on.  I can't figure out the driver orientation.  At least the surround matches the other Cerwin Vega components.  HA!

This is the raw motor/driver at the Powersoft booth. It's NOT the inverted cone version in the D.A.S. cabinet so it looks a little bit different.



I didn't make the C-V connection but come to think of it I was speaking with the business development manager and he mentioned he came from Cerwin Vega so you might be on to something there.

To be fair that was MSRP, so I would expect street price to be considerably less.

I wasn't too impressed with the rest of the stack, but the subs were jaw-dropping. I was a little skeptical of them at first being a heavy plastic cone and an unconventional drive, but they were surprisingly musical given the limited test tracks he ran through them. These are front loaded cabinets but you don't hear much cone distortion at all. I'm interested to see what other manufacturers do with this Powersoft driver.

Anyway, the driver system reminds me of the original Servo Drive I saw at an AES convention in NYC 20 years back.

I was a little skeptical of them at first being a heavy plastic cone and an unconventional drive, but they were surprisingly musical given the limited test tracks he ran through them.

I can't say what the DAS cone is but Powersoft was testing this unit with a very lightweight but rigid cone made of foam that I thought they developed specifically for this drive unit.

I'm not sure exactly what it's made of, but I assume it's some sort of composite. It's very rigid. It really didn't flex at all when you pushed it.  I don't know what it weighs compared to a paper cone, I just meant that it SEEMED big and bulky, especially being a 30" driver.

The inverted cone in the D.A.S. is still a Powersoft design and they had one on display in their booth I just didn't get a picture of it. It makes the system a little more compact too.

Designed to be a centerpiece for clubs - ala Funktion One setup. Available in custom colors or all black. Bass was very deep and loud, they seemed to be running volumes a lot higher than the other demo rooms. Really only impressed with the sub, didn't care for any of the other products they demoed.

I will revive this thread to show you more picture of subs in the market with this driver. The DAS sub is around 11 K€ here from what I know. Taking into account that the amp-driver combo alone goes at 3200 the set...

I have been looking at the powersoft drivers.  The DAS version is tuned to be more like very loud double 18's, rather than going for the lower half octave, one reason why their cabinet is so compact...

Keith,

You can plug the specs into Hornresp and see what the drivers will do.
They are definitely not the best bang for the buck, but lots of peak output.
For huge cones, pretty high FS.
