It ended up that while testing both devices I had on hand (Rolls PM50s and Behringer HA400) the client preferred having a volume control at the input location anyway. Both devices made the line dead quiet, so she's happy and everything is working perfectly again. I have two headphone amps coming in, then it will be good to go.
