I am trying to optimize the installation. But I may already have the optimal driver for this configuration. I thought maybe more magnet power might improve the efficiency a tad, but perhaps not.
As with many things-it is not about a single item/spec etc, but rather how the WHOLE thing works together as a WHOLE.

Some single specs may be good-but others may more than outweigh those advantages.

Just like horsepower in a car.  That is one thing-but the weight-air drag etc can make a huge difference as well.

The gearing in the transmission can really change the suitability for a specific job-using the same horsepower.

Sometimes it is about speed-other times about torque etc

you got that right. i still roadrace my 65 mustang. that foto was taken in 1979 at an SAAC autocross. i have a 392W stroker engine making about 600hp but the suspension, tires, brakes, wheels, steering box, tranmission and ratio, rear gear ratio, and type of posi/locker type rear are equally important. one think i like about the Italian made FaitalPro 18XL1600 is it does everything extreamly well. the 15" Ciare woofers i use do everthing extreamly well to but at a lower max spl. its the whole package that you gotta look at. i'v ben building PA speakers since aout 1971 and Hifi home speakers since about 1977.

A small drop in sensitivity can be offset by a big drop in power compression, but if power compression is not much of an issue, then going to a driver with slightly more Xmax yet less sensitivity, may yield lower overall SPL for a given power input.
I'm just testing single drivers out in the parking lot in a 7 cu ft box.
The Radian is supposed to have low power compression, but in practice, with 750W input, the 180B gave 3dB more output.
The conclusion is you must conduct your own tests to determine if a driver is suitable to your application.

i power my 18" with a single qsc 3800 amp in bridged mono. 1700w rms. the faitalpro is rated to handle 1600w rms. i keep the -6db light on the amp from glowing steady. no power compression happens. i can get 126db from 40-130hz from a single 18xl1600 without maxing it out. the 18xl1600 is a very popular 18". in order for myour test to be accurate you need to have a box that you can change port configurations and add or subtract internal volume. red house bricks work real good cause they dont bounce around. not all 18" woofers work good in the box you have. port size and the number of ports makes a big difference. speaker design software is a must to get it right.

Those numbers are similar to what I get now with the single 180B at 1 meter on-axis, using a single channel of Behringer EP4000 (about 750W into 8 ohms at clip).

Yet many of these manufacturers claim SPLs in excess of 130dB, including Radian, which I have not been able to achieve in real life. Realistically, 125-126dB seems to be the limit.

Sensitivity of the 180B @ 2.83 V RMS is 101dB at 80Hz (max value) and 96dB at 24Hz (lower limit of usable response) in this box.

I haven't looked into the radian much, though I like their compression drivers.  I have however been very pleased with the Faital Pro 18XL1600.

the Radian 850PB is the smothest most realistic cymbal producer i have ever heard. i'v ben playing drums since 1970 and have owned Zildjain, Paiste, Sabian, Wuhan. it does an exelent job of acurately reproducing mine. while i was doing research i found that many audiophiles use it in their home systems with horns. i use AKG 460B-CK61 mics for overheads for playout and home recording the cymbals. i cross the them at 1980hz in the system with the 10" mid and 1500hz in the system with the 12" mid using Ashly XR1001 and XR4001 corssovers. they are 24db L-R. heres some info. btw i dont like the titanium diaphrams cause the sound is artifical.   http://www.usspeaker.com/radian%20850pb-1.htm

Off topic, but yes, I totally agree about titanium diaphragms having a "sound" of which I'm not a fan.  I use the 950pb and the 760NeoPB in some of my designs.  I'm sure the 850 is also very sweet given the right horn/waveguide is used.
