I recently purchased a new snake.  It has xlr returns instead of 1/4" that i'm used to.  My board has 1/4" sends.  I've seen adaptors from nuetrik but it's asking me if I need "wired" or "unwired", what does this mean and which do I need just for the aux sends on my board?

It's a A&H Mix Wiz.  The sends are mono.  Just need to know the difference between "wired" and "unwired".

Using barrel adapters willtorque on the board jacks and accelerate wear.  Using the wired adapters will stress the connection less.

For me, barrel adapters are to be avoided.

So, with these I don't need to worry about "wired" or "unwired", just get the correct balanced adaptor and add it to my snake ends?

Wired refers to the fact that there is a flexible bit of wire between the two end connectors. With the barrel connectors, the potential extra leverage can put strain on the socket or the adaptor itself leading to damage. 

Get balanced XLR to jack connectors and if you use them on unbalanced outputs, they will still work.
