« on: April 09, 2015, 03:29:38 PM »

I am cleaning up a case that I dont need and am trying to get the stenciling off that I put on in silver sharpie.  Anyone have any good experience with a product?

WD-40 will work with a lot of elbow grease, lighter fluid. And depending on what it is stenciled on PVC primer works great.

I found an orange based spray stripper at Home Depot a few years ago that worked great at taking painted stencils off of laminate road cases.  Not sure how it would work on Sharpie.

Take a look at "Goof Off".  It's very potent; use it sparingly and try not to get it on plastic... it can melt plastic.

Rubbing alcohol/Tea Tree Oil removes Sharpie marker from many surfaces. I would give those a try.

Goof Off is Methylene Chloride.  The active ingredient in Jasco paint remover.  It's also a California Prop 65 listed carcinogen.    Good for separating epoxy bonded parts, but as you say not so good for the plastic laminate on most road cases.
Naptha, which is whats in lighter fluid and WD-40 is good on many inks but less so on paint.
