4 buss with mute groups?
« on: October 10, 2005, 10:09:06 AM »

I'm looking for a new console for our church after ours was stolen last week. We had a DDA-CS3. Now that I have the option, I'd like to move up a little bit feature-wise. One of the most important things I want is mute groups. So far I've only found this option on 8 buss consoles. The Midas Venice looks nice (for a 4 buss) but it doesn't have mute groups and the Verona is out of my price range. I've pretty much settled on the A&H GL3800B. I can get a new GL3300 at a great price but from what I've read here and on other forums, the 3800 is a step up sonically from the 3300. Any thoughts on this or does anyone know of a 4 buss with mute groups? My budgete is around $6.5k.

I'm not sure what the prices are on these but:

Yamaha M2500

Soundcraft GB8

They should be right around your budget.
The yamaha is probably a little higher priced.

the only thing I don't like about the features on the GB8 is the
fact that the aux sends are pre/post switchable only at the master section,
not per channel.

Other thing you could consider is to buy 2 Yamaha O1V's
I believe you can link them together, but I'm not sure.
Would be nice to have digital consoles.

The Soundcraft GB4 is a 4 bus console with mute groups.  Its a bit cheaper than the GL3800 and lots of people seem to like the sound of both boards (i.e. it seems to be a personal preference as to which one actually sounds better).

As far as digitals go, you can get a 01V96 for if you need fewer channels, or a DM1000 if you have the money for that.  Both are capable of mute groups (01V96 has 8 mute groups) and a bunch more.   The DM1000 is 4.5K to 5k if I remember right, then you would have plenty of budget to expand the channels with some extra channels to what ever you need.

Thanks guys. Sorry to take so long in replying. Our company's annual conference is this week so I've been out of the office all week. Just popped in for a moment.
I'm looking for a 32 input board. I've about decided on going ahead with an 8 buss an I've been pricing the Soundcraft GB8, A&H 2800 and A&H 3800B (28 mic ins, 4 extra stereo returns for a total of 6). Those are all hitting right in my $ range with the 2800 being the cheapest and the 3800 being the most expensive. Decisions, decisions..

Edit--
I really like the Midas line and especially the Verona but it's just out of my league price wise.
