Yamaha CL5 "Module Failure"
« on: February 26, 2015, 11:18:00 PM »

We run a CL5 (deck) & a DM2000 (FOH) with 2 3224 RIOs.  Had a fleeting error in tonights show: the CL5 took a few seconds time out, during which time A2 saw a red "Module Failure" message for a moment, and we lost all sound from it.  It got itself back online after about a half minute.  The old DM2000, and the RIOs, sailed right through the glitch.  No trouble rest of the show.

So, anybody seen this?  Can't find any info on what it might have been.

Are you running a redundant Dante network?

Are you keeping Dante Controller running ALL OF THE TIME to create an error log? You can learn alot about what happens on the network by looking at this log. You can see latency issues as well as when the source of the master clock changes.

I've heard of errors from the "Network Module" being fixed with firmware upgrades. I would check all of your firmware versions on the CL, the DM, and the RIO's. Also, check your Dante versions on all devices. Compare what you are running to the chart on the Yamaha website. I would do any necessary firmware upgrades and call Yamaha support with an inquiry.

Let us know how you make out.

Have not had this problem or anything close to it in the 2 1/2 years we have had our CL5. We have two RIO 3224s and run  a redundant network.  Do you know if it was a module on the console? I would be talking to Yamaha CA if it lost all sound for 30 seconds.

I've seen "Audio Network Module Failure" on my QL1. It appeared out of nowhere, but it was permanent and required a swap of Audinate Dante module (hardware). No Dante communication whatsoever - not even LEDs lighting up on the back when connected to other Ethernet hardware.

We do run a redundant network.  I normally don't keep the controller software running, just use it when I need it.  I was recording the show, all tracks, using VSC ... no glitches (you can only tell where it happens by the confusion in the performers when they lost their monitors).

So you lost output from the console? But DVS kept recording? Interesting...

A careful look at the recording shows about a 100ms anomaly marking the beginning and end of the incident, duration 15 sec.  Otherwise, everything outside of the CL5 was normal.

2.04(CL5) 2.00(RIO)

Dave,
I would check to see the your Dante firmware is updated to the same version on all of your devices. Also, I would set up both consoles and both RIO's in a corner of the shop for testing. I would loop playback tracks through the system and leave Dante controller running overnight. Once the system is set up, I would clear the error log, make note of the time and set the view to "information". Check the log file in the morning. Let us know how you make out. Definitely call Yamaha tech support and open a ticket. They would want to know what's going on.
