Sprinter van is the way to go. Exceeds 20mpg and you could load it with lead and it will still go tires squatting and all.  I have seen plenty of sprinters pulling 15' trailers.

  The diesel that is notorious for injector problems is the Isuzu duramax 6.6L also found in Chevy trucks.
