4 Channel LED with 3 Channel Controller
« on: February 12, 2015, 11:09:45 pm »

Hey!

I have a few (really really cheap) TSSS 86 Chinese LED fixtures that have 4 DMX channels. According to the very vague user manual, channel 1 is for flash and light brightness and channels 2, 3 and 4 are for R G and B respectively. I have the American DJ RGB 3C controller lying around and I was wondering if there was any way to get it to control these lights. I am very new to this and have exhausted all of my ideas as too what to search to find an answer. In reality, if I could permanently set Channel 1 to 255 and trick the controller into thinking that channels 2 3 and 4 are actually 1 2 and 3 it would work but I am at a loss as to how to do that...

Simple answer: nope.

More complex answer: Yes, but it'll cost more than replacing the cheap fixtures with (probably even cheaper) RGB-only three-channel fixtures.

I agree - nope.  At least not without a lot of fiddling and additional equipment.  The only caveat to that would be if there are color macros buried in Channel 1 somewhere or a 1-Channel DMX Mode.  You wouldn't have RGB control, but it's better than nothing!  It never hurts to play around with the fixtures if you haven't before - I've come across many Chinese lights that differ in features from what their manual claims...  Hope this helps!

You could do it if you can sacrifice blue... Or any color that includes blue..
