PM5D and studio manager, can't fint a way to unlink select.
« on: February 08, 2015, 10:38:29 pm »

I have tried searching in studio manager and on the console and Google.  I am running a 5D on stage as monitor console and using Studio manager remotely to mix FOH on the same board.

I know I have done this on other Yamaha consoles with studio manager.  It was a simple check box to link or unlink the channel select.  Any pointers would be great.

Thank you.

That is where I remember the setting.  However this is what I get on a fresh windows 7-32 bit install with all the Yamaha components freshly down loaded.

Under the SM menu on the PM5D editor, Windows -> Selected Channel -> Additional View. It's a channel strip screen that doesn't follow the selected channel on the console or in SM.

Yeah, guess they took that function away. All SM editors are different for each console. It's my pet peeve with Yamaha that they add and take away features randomly between their lines.
The CL/QL is a step in the right direction where every console has the same feature set and same editor, just with less channels and mixes.

I tried that, works OK but is a real PITA to click up and down all the channels, I did not have much time to play with it, maybe there is a drop down or something to make navigation quick.

No don't think SM is really designed for what you're trying to do.
You'd be better off to get an actual physical FOH console.

Click on the word "Select" in the channel up/down box, and it'll drop down a list of all channels including outputs.

Would be nice if it showed channel names instead of numbers, but it's still reasonably handy.

The show went very well.  I found the select list when I booted up for the day.  I agree that names would be better than numbers but after a little while I learned the numbers to the most common CH.  The monitor guy and myself never stepped on each other.  I used a pre fade mix as my cue and just routed it to the small analogue console at FOH.

The gig itself was a corporate gig general session with a party band in the evening.  I had a small analogue at FOH to sub mix play back and podium/lavs.  These were routed to stereo inputs 1 and 2 on the 5D.  This gave me physical faders for the GS.  The band on remote studio manager for the evening.

I also had an Android tablet running realVNC as well.  That way I could walk the room and make changes.  It was also my back up to the wired network and laptop at FOH.  Monitor guy and com were my back up for the computer on stage.

The absolute necessity I have for Studio Manager mixing is a Griffin Powermate USB knob. Set it to control "scroll wheel" and it'll operate whatever on-screen knob you hover the mouse over. Works in most audio control software.
