Economical Earset mic recommendations
« on: February 07, 2015, 06:44:49 PM »

I'm working with an installation that has multiple channels of wireless mics (23, to be exact), with both hand held and earset types.  Some of the earsets are missing and/or inoperative.

This is a middle school, so while the Countryman E6 is obviously a great mic, I'm not certain its cost is justified, given the environment and application, as these things are not handled with the same care tha a professional touring act would take.

Any recommendations for a earset mic that is more economical but still sound decent and hold up reasonably well in this application?

OSP HS-09 has worked well for me.  Comes with two cables, holds up well and sounds good.  I also have the Countryman E6 and I can tell a difference between the two, but for most applications the OSP will work very well.  Especially when you may be replacing them due to abuse.

Omni mic?

Pyle PMHMS20.  Seriously.  And for the price, they're disposable.  Unless someone specifically requests a Countryman, I don't even send them out anymore.

+ another for these. We used to send e6's out to these high school or middle school events. They end up coming back broken or generally misused and abused. The Pyle mics sound fine for this application and are generally disposable.

Those cheap Pyle Chinese knockoffs work surprisingly well.  And ridiculously cheap.  Perfect for middle school abuse.

Used them at a very large cable company that owns a TV network corporate gig, along with one E6.  For speech I couldn't tell the difference.  Gain before feedback was very good.

Hmm, curious on these. Is this available for Sennheiser minijack also?

There is a PMHM2 that supposedly will work with the Sennheiser evo packs, but I've never tried it.  For $13, it's worth a shot.

Wow - I don't know how I missed all these responses; I usually get an email, but in any case, thanks to all of you for your quick replies!

I had seen the Pyle mic before and was a bit gun shy because of the (low) price.  Sounds like I need to check it out, as well as the OSP.

(And yes, "Omni" - I should have specified)

Cheers!
