Source for 12 gage 8 conductor speaker cable
« on: December 12, 2014, 05:31:14 pm »

I used to have a source for this but they no longer carry it.  Where can I find 12 gage 8 conductor tactical NL8 Cable.  I have found 13ga (ProCo)but would prefer 12ga as we are making up 100' runs.  Or maybe 12ga vs. 13ga really want make a difference?

Thanks in advance!

Carol 12/8 SO is to big to fit in an NL8, according to Neutrik. Possibly the reason you are seeing #13.

I don't know if this would fit in an NL8 but 12/8 can be found at:    www.cameltraders.com
I know this one will:  13/8 at  www.audiopile.net

at 50 ft, the difference is about .05dB
at 200 ft, the difference is about .18dB

12AWG is pushing it at 200ft though with a damping factor of 13.

At a more typical 2.7 ohm load the overall loss starts to approach 2db with a commensurate reduction in damping factor at the load.  There was a company who's name escapes me that offered 11 ga cable on the first four conductors and 13 ga on the second four on their NL8 cables.  I don't know that they are still around.

Riley,
You are thinking of CBI. I purchased some of the 13-8 for our Veam breakouts, very nice cable.

Here is the losses for 2 ohm.

The 12/8 sold by cameltraders.com will fit in NL8 but only if you solder the connections, and even then it is a pain in the ass. Worth it for long runs though.

Rapco is the company that now handles the 4/11+4/13 cable.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the replies.  Typically this will be used at 100' and on Low Mid-Mid-High on an XLC Array.  Looks like I will stick to the 13-8.  I already have a mix of 13-8, 12-8.  Liberty used to stock the 12-8 and it was nice flexible cable and fit the NL8 nicely but due to low sales volume the quite stocking it. I can get it but it is EXPENSIVE as compared to the 13-8.  I doesn't appear it will make that much of a difference so a 1000' roll of 13-8 will soon be on order.

Thanks Again and wishing every one a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
