Woman tries to electrocute man in tub

Updated: Wednesday, December 3 2014, 02:54 PM EST Webster, N.Y.

Police have charged a woman with attempted murder for trying to kill her boyfriend while he was in the bathtub. Police said on November 28, Alicia Gould was at the Super 8 Motel on Empire Blvd with her boyfriend. Gould allegedly took a radio/alarm clock that was plugged into the wall outlet and placed it into the bathtub while her boyfriend was in it. The man was not injured due to safety features installed into the electrical system. Gould was arrested shortly afterward and charged with second-degree attempted murder. She was arraigned and committed to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash/$40,000 bond. Gould is scheduled to appear in court again on December 5 at 10:30 a.m.

Isn't this type of incident what got GFCI's started in the first place?

Her arraignment was just a few hours ago, so maybe she made bail and is out looking for a new boyfriend already.

I doubt murder by bathtub was the dominant motivation, but shock hazard increases around water, so kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc. Deaths still occur from bathtub accidents, most notable recently was a faulty smart phone charger being used in the bath killed a Chinese stewardess. A GFCI would have saved her life, but so would a properly designed charger.

I added GFCI to my bathroom and kitchen, I need to put one out in the laundry area.

You would think with 2015 around the corner we would have evolved as a species sufficiently to not use electric appliances while bathing.

In the UK, the only outlets (other than the lights) allowed in a bathroom are transformer isolated shaver sockets.  Do you have normal outlets in bathrooms?

Yep.  All new construction has full 120 volt/15-20amp GFCI - still a lot of older stuff out there without.

Seemed she wanted to get away from her boyfriend.  Think she succeeded, but not exactly the way she wanted.  Guaranteed three hots and a cot, though.
