Yamaha M7CL configuration
« on: November 30, 2014, 02:39:02 PM »

I recently inherited 2 barely used M7CL-48 consoles with Meter Bridges, Redundant Powers Supplies, and Cases. I am looking to do some MY cards configuration to better suit our needs. Please provide feedback on the following and please share if you have any other recommendations. We typically do festival shows with multiple bands including national acts.

First console would be setup for FOH with the following Cards.

1 - MY8-AE to feed Lake LM26 and Lab Gruppen PLM amps via AES3.
1 - WSG-Y16 connected to a sound grid server for Waves Plugins.

Second console would be setup for Monitors with the following cards.

1 - MY8-LAKE for 8 MESA processing channels to provide additional Graphic EQ's for monitor/side fill mixes.
1 - MY8-DA96 for 8 additional Analog outputs.

Thanks,

Chris

How many mixes do you need on the monitor console? You can split each 31-band graphic EQ into two flex-15 EQs, which helps a lot.

The D to A converters on the M7 and LS9s are somewhat less than stellar sounding. The console will sound better moving that function to a better convertor.

I had a show recently that had 11 IEM mixes + 1 wedge mix + Side fills. I also have one coming up with 9 wedge mixes + side fills.

Have you considered skipping AES3 and going straight to PLM and LM with Dante?

Yes I have, I currently use Dante from our iLive to feed the Lake processing. For the M7CL I'm looking at AES3 for the simplicity and ease of setup for my techs.

I might hold off on spending the fairly big bucks for the Waves and Lake cards unless you have a source of cheap ones. They seen like overkill on what is still an M7. I think the shows that can use an M7 can also use the internal processing. It's a good console, and they are very good expansion cards, but both will need to be controlled with an external computer and you can either have 16 flex eq graphics or some smaller number and some Rev X FXs with just the internal processing.

If I am mistaken the cards are an easy add later.
