Foxart Lighting
« on: November 24, 2014, 08:13:08 PM »

I've recently come across this company in my search for new lighting fixtures. They had some crazy deals this last week on lighting packages with cases included in bulk orders. Does anybody have any experience with this brand or have you even heard of it. Research revealed very few uninformative user reviews.

Thanks for any input.
Michael

Haha well you can go shopping for pictures of foxes if you want. Or I could tell you the right name of the company and probably get more responses.

Ha!  Yes, having the correct name does help! :)

Many of the fixtures there can also be found at AliExpress. Do a search for something like "RGBAW 7x15w".

Now the question is. How do these fixtures compare to the Elation, Chauvet or Blizzard fixtures and other things in the range? They have very few reviews online in comparison.

Without actually being able to examine one, I'd guess (based on my experiences with unknown brands) these are a bit under the name brands you mentioned in that they quite possibly have inferior components that you can't see. Only way to know is to take one apart.

I can't comment on Elation/AmericanDJ or Chauvet... but I do know that Blizzard, Venue, Mega Lite, and Eternal do purchase BULK from China manufactures... at the same time they set-up agreements with the manufacture/seller not to ship/distribute to USA.

I have some LEDs from the guys who produced the Blizzard Fab5.  I've had them for a year in a half with out any issue, but last month, one of the lights died (power supply).  In order for me to get a new Power Supply, it will cost me $65 and what ever Western Union/Bank charges for international payments/bank transfers.  I am debating on should I repair or sell.  I can no longer get the Fab5 case/type light.

I'm guessing the company you mean is Artfox (not foxart).

If so, I just tried them with about a $10,000 order, I bought 6 of the "Pointy 10R" lights (Robe Pointe '3 in 1'copy cats...wash-beam-spot) and their little "USB DMX" light control box . I paid more with Art Fox by about 33-40% then I could have to other small company no name China built 10R Pointe copies, because they said they are more or less on par with Robe quality, same optics, others I was looking at were junk, they had a USA office, etc. I had a bad experience with my old 575's, the seller CKC Lighting as they stopped answering emails so I went for this USA office business

Truthfully, mixed reviews. We had what I feel to be a very big job for us, and I felt I was clear I needed them for New Years Eve. Later, he said they should still be able to ship by New Years. Say what?????? Only ship? I said my gig was ON New Years and I was clear. So.... no lights. Then, after they didn't show up .....they didn't even ship by New Years anyways

I also was led to felt I was a very small order, that my 6 units with cases wasn't jack, so I felt I was 2nd priority to others. They never said that, but it seemed implied

When they came, they put their Artfox logo all over the sides of the cases where I was going to put our logo. Not a huge deal, but wasn't mentioned. And funny, most rubbed off

After they arrived, I was told NOT to put the light on full power when using it as a white spot with a GOBO, and don't hold that for more then a few seconds, as it would actually melt the metal gobo but they said "as this design just like Robe then Robe have same problem". Again, not a huge deal but I would of preferred to know of the issue first not after the sale

I used these lights just 2 times now, and I will say they can crank. We had notice when they first came one of the gobos were loose rolling around inside, as the snap ring that held the gobo in the wheel had snapped or something. I told the sales guy and they sent the replacement parts very fast, so that part was excellent

The 2nd time we used them, my light tech thinks we had a few they had sticky shutters that were acting "off", but it was very cold outdoor event, maybe 10 degrees, snow everywhere. As we are busy as heck, we still don't know if this is an actual issue as we are too busy to test them (soon!!)  but if the light gets hot enough to melt a metal gobo, we shall see if any shutter issue was due to cold weather or not

My light tech is a smart kid...real good with computers....but he is still kind of working on the usb dmx box to get it to work with some of it's applications. Instruction need to be better, if he has a issue, as good as he is, they need to get that more user friendly

I also bought 6 of their 15r Beams and been really disappointed with the quality of the lights. 2 of them came DOA. Got parts and no luck getting the Pan Issue fixed. The main person you deal with is called Steven but he's just a salesman. He doesn't seem to know anything about the lights because ever time I have a question about the fixtures he says he needs to talk with his technicians.

An example of this is that I asked to calibrate the fixtures and he didn't know how to do that.

Also their DMX manual is wrong. If you ask someone like Martin or ETC to make the profile the strobe parameters in their DMX values are all wrong which makes working the lights a pain.

I have now been dealing with them for about 2 months trying to get the bad pair fixed but it's been a big struggle.

They may have "an office" in CA but it seems like they mainly are working in China using a google number or something like this. Talk on the phone with them isn't that great because their English is not very good and the phone signal is poor.

I would recommend not buying anything from Artfox.
