How many big, fat cables does one trade for other big, fat cables and then claim it is some how superior?

It's just fewer boxes to load in.  Neither is really superior.

Each is superior in its own way.

For me-I am old school and like separate amp racks.  At least if something goes wrong you can often wire around it and keep the show going-assuming you know what you are doing.
