PRV SW2200 18" is this a B&C Clone?
« on: September 29, 2014, 07:34:44 pm »

I own a bunch of Double 18" cabinets with the B&C TBX100's in them. A local guy that designed  and built them for us claimed that these PRV SW2200's and a Dayton Audio PA465S-8 are just as good and have the same tone that we love. Do any of you guys have experience with any of these other two woofers. I looked on Parts Express and I must admit I can not really decipher the specs besides the basic power, frequency, sensitivity and FS. I do not know how BL factors in but I hear its important. Excuse my ignorance as I have researched some thiele small information but still do not get all of it. Can someone tell me how these compare just by specs or has someone had any experience with these.  Again I love the tone and punch of the B&C's.

I have no experience with the drivers in question-but just want to add a few thoughts.

First the t/s parameters do not tell by themselves if a driver is better than another.  They help give an idea if the driver in question is better for a particular type of cabinet.

Different alignments (ported-bandpass-horns etc) require different parameters.  What makes one worse for one type of cabinet can make it better for another.

Sensitivity is something that can mean different things-depending on how/where it is measured.  Sometimes speakers with higher sensitivity numbers are actual not as loud (in the intended range)-because the freq that was used to determine the sensitivity was at a freq outside of the intended freq band.

There are also other factors that can come into play-such as durability.

Again I have no idea on the others-but do know that B&C stands behind their products and make a good product.
