The compound that was used to stick it seems dry and hard.

How old is that driver? Has it ever been re-coned? Usually when the adhesive fails like that it's because it didn't bond to the basket for some reason. Wrong adhesive, it started to set up before the cone was installed or perhaps the basket had a residue on it like solvent.

I'd contact JBL to find out if you're eligible for a warranty replacement.

IIRC the driver is a 2262HPL and doesn't use the standard JBL Moyen glue. Yes, the adhesive should seem dry and hard.

The speaker was bought two years ago. Never reconed though. Should I worry about the rest coming undone as well. Wouldn't it be better to fix it up with my usual reconing guy. Warranty will take too long if it still is applicable as the service center is too far away. This being in India it will probably be a shoddy job as well.

I don't know about that driver-but back in the early 90s Peavey got ahold of a batch (or 2 or 3) of spider adhesive that would just "lift off" when driven hard.

I don't know the numbers-but would have suspected it would have affected thousands of drivers.

I saw it most often on the Scorpion drivers.

Maybe the same type of thing.  It looks like a pretty clean break.
