Understanding that a speaker's coverage pattern is not the same at all frequencies, and that the actual coverage pattern may differ from its listed specs:

Provided I have a seating area that is 40 feet wide at it's widest point (about 34 feet at the narrowest) and 25 feet deep, what sort of coverage pattern would I be looking at (again, just a rough estimate) to cover the entire area?

If I need to do a few more measurements please let me know.

EDIT: the seating is not "raised" or "graduated", every seat is the same height.

This information is needed:
-the shape of the audience area. Is the widest part closer or further from the speaker or in the middle?
-the distance from the speaker to the front row.
-the height the speaker will be mounted.

Given that information, some trigonometry will determine what coverage pattern will keep everyone within the rated -6dB area of the high frequency section.

You'll want it in front any open mics.  You need to determine a range for mounting locations.  That range will be limited by mic placement and the front row of the seating area.

What content will be amplified and at what expected level?  What frequency response do you want (for instance if a dance club the base requirements will change).

My guess is this is a church?

Have you considered hiring an expert, communicating your requirements and having the system designed?  I guess the second option is asking vague questions in a public forum full of strangers.  Both are bound to produce similar results.

Just to add a couple of pieces of more information needed:

Is this to be a single speaker or multiples?

How loud does it need to be?

What is the budget and what all does that need to include?

Where can the speaker be located?  Due to weight-ceiling structure-wire paths etc.

Photos or drawings would really help
