Mine is really quite useful.   It tells if any device or person is Bad or Good...
...and, it can be trusted.  It is made by Supreme instruments

Love the Useless Box!  I've had a couple on my desk over the years but they always seem to disappear.  Maybe I should spend more video security and less on desk clutter?  ;)

Some former coworkers used to add a few extra totally functionless buttons and lights to control panels to impress management-just like entertaining kids!

That's exactly what it is. I spotted the old tube checker meter on ebay It just seemed like it needed a new life.

I recall one old product development job where we added a knob that wasn't connected to anything for the boss to tweak.  8)

Back in the '60s my older brother built a "foo counter". It was an electronic device with a bunch of neon lamps that would randomly discharge slowly charging capacitors when the voltage was high enough for them to conduct. Apparently variations in capacitor size, resistor tolerance, and lamp threshold gave a convincing random indication.

Actually saw something very similar as a high school science project once.
Box, bunch of lights, same resistors, same caps blinking separately.  I guess they were showing the effects of value tolerance.
