Alternate Use for JBL Eon 510
« on: July 24, 2014, 11:39:49 AM »

3 out of 4 of our eons are dead. A replacement pc board from JBL is $160.00. They won't sell just the discreet component. Throwing $160 at a speaker that's selling new for $299 doesn't make sense to me.

Instead of just trashing them I'm thinking of bypassing the internal amp and using an external power amp. Buy some nice wall mounts and do a permanent install in our studio for rehersals.

Any other ideas?

Which component do you need?  I have replaced the HF amplifier IC on 15" Eons before.

Have you confirmed that you are getting the proper voltage to the chip, compared to the working 510?

I've been considering buying some Eon 510 speakers for my own use. I do very low volume performances in nursing homes. I like the idea of a 17 pound speaker. Should I reconsider? What caused all your failures? Were they being abused?

I purchased a pair of the Eon315 about 2 years ago and had decent results.  I used them in a rental system which ended up being sold to the client that rented the system for a year at a "start up-store front church".

I figured I would pick up another pair just in case lightning struck twice.  This time I bought used Eon315 from one of those big box/online discount retailers and took advantage of their "after market warranty".  I had not rented this pair of speakers and was just using them around the house as needed.  While I was checking some wireless headset mics I purchased, one of the woofers quit (at least it was not on a job), the speaker is at the warranty repair shop now.  Best $25 I ever spent.

Ohhhh Gosh,
it seems that a lot of Eon owners have the same problems.

I know this is an onld thread but I have my 2 JBL Eon 315 units in desperate need of repair.
None of them powers up and it seems the problem is the same, the main PSU and AMP board.
I have no voltages at test points T601 (+40V) and T603(-40V).

I would like to ask you Mike and other fellow members if you know what are the main causes of failure in these boards?
Are there any common problematic componentes or common faults?

thank you so much
