Here is a pic. It is flanged a bit on the tip where the contacts are.

From appearance that should be what switch craft calls " 1/4" long frame "

I've always called the plug pictured a "Long Frame" plug to differentiate them from regular 1/4" or TRS plugs. Pretty sure that using standard 1/4" or TRS in a Long Frame patch bay will wreck the patch bay by bending the contacts out too much.

Does anyone know the reason for the shape of the telephone type connectors?  I always assumed it was so the tip didn't make contact with any contacts other than its own when being inserted.
