X32 - using delay for in-ears only, not FOH
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:00:55 PM »

I have an artist coming next weekend stating that he would like a delay in his in ears, I know how to get it to his in-ears, but how would I mute that delay going to the FOH?

Console using: Behringer x32

Thanks.

Delay for some sort of alignment, or delay as an effect?

Assuming you mean delay as an effect, do this:
-Select the FX Return channel corresponding to your delay effect
-Turn down the FX Return fader for the house mix and/or unassign it to LR
-On the SENDS tab on the screen, change the send type to Pre Fader for his in-ear monitor bus
-Turn up the send on that bus per preference

If you have your in-ear monitor bus linked for stereo operation, you may want to pan the left and right FX Returns accordingly.

I didn't test this so someone correct me if I missed anything.

Correct. The artist would like to hear this only in his IEM's and does not want it displayed at FOH, effects as in vocal effects not house speaker delays. :-)

Yep.  That works.

The only issue with this approach is that the relative amount of delay in his IEM mix will not automatically adjust as his vocal level is increased (pre-fader tap).

Shouldn't be a problem though.

Uh... Yes it would, because the send comes from VOX channel.  The send can be post or pre-fader, as desired.

I knew I forgot something.  I should have mentioned that...setting the FX send from the vocal channel according to preference.  In this case, I would suggest pre-fader.

Sorry guys. Please excuse my inexperience here. But I'm still a bit confused as to going abouts doing this...

Again, vocalist would like to hear delay effects in his IEM only and not have the audience hear the delay at FOH.

Sam,

Can you be a little more clear on what your confused about.  Coreys post is pretty much step by step.  I run the x32 as well, and this is a pretty easy sequence.  Your just taking the effect channel and sending it to his monitor, like you would take a microphone, or any other signal for that fact.  Just need to set the effect to where a fader adjustment doesn't send more or less to his ears as you are mixing the FOH mix.  Which is what they are referring to by setting it to pre-fader.

Would it be possible to call me?

It would be greatly appreciated. I'm sitting right in front of the console.

Its like sending any other input signal to an aux.  There is zero, zip, nada difference.  If you can get a vocal to come out of a monitor, you can make EFX come out of a monitor.  Its just another input like every other input, except the channel doesn't have an XLR connector, it's fed from the virtual FX rack.

Go into your main LR mix.

Find the faders for the delay return.

Pull them towards you.

Chris.
