Rider Friendly Racks & Stacks, etc.
« on: August 01, 2014, 12:29:47 PM »

We're about to rebrand the production company into a tri-state/regional company and are aiming to stock our shelves with the most used rider friendly gear... Currently have X32s with S16s, SL32.4.2AIs, VRX932LAs, SRM450s, HRP122is, ART500s... what other gear is the most used and would be highly popular for rider/rental?

Thanks!

What do your competitors have?   What level acts and what size events are you trying to support?

VRX, SRX, RCF, ART, The Pretty Good Mackie (EAW Design) and lower end pre-china Mackie (Italy and USA)... We already house some of that same gear now. We're now aiming to medium to larger size events. That's the niche that has yet to be filled and we aim to do that. There are 7 companies within 20 miles of us that do small to kinda 'ehh' mid size events... market is very broken in that due to so many. Sometime in the future they will all flop because they cant live on milk and bread alone. We aim to be there to support that market again just as much. Closest source for mid to larger gear is 250 miles away... we aim to change that and give a more feasible source for this rider-friendly gear, whether it be rental, cross-rental, or turn-key.

How much emphasis on 'rider friendly'?  What gear are the acts coming through asking for?  What level and budget acts?

On the low cost end, RCF HDL20A, dB Tech T8, etc are worth a listen.  L'Acoustics KARA if needed for brand name.

What kind of riders?  Concert acts?  Corporate entertainment?  Talking head gigs with powerpoint and Skype?

Not a huge emphasis on it...  Just to be able to cater to what we reasonably can... no company can cater to EVERY exact request... we'd usually offer and suggest a replacement with what we have in house and that works fine and to their liking.

Most are not brand and model specific... just usually something along the lines of 'we'd like to see this when we arrive' but if this cannot be met... usually something standard and always follows with "OR EQUIVALENT" ... 90% of the time, "OR EQUIVALENT" is in the riders.
Or... "PURCHASER shall provide, a complete high quality sound reinforcement system capable of full range coverage over the entire audience area." Then they will roll into how many inputs needed, blah blah blah... all the obvious stuff. That basically leaves it up to us to pick what is best suited for the job and that is what we have always done.

Mainly Regional and a few National acts roll through, but all promoters and tour managers have been great on taking what's available due to their client's budget, our client, etc.

Mainly concert acts, Tim. Very seldom talking head gigs.
