I wrote up a blog entry today on Wireless Emergency Alerts, and how show crews can use them to stay aware of severe weather:
http://controlgeek.net/blog/2014/4/9/wireless-emergency-alerts-wea-a-great-new-tool-for-show-crews

This is a followup to an article called, "Weather Resources for Show Crews" I wrote a couple years ago, which you can download here:
http://controlgeek.net/articles-and-other-work/2012/5/11/weather-resources-for-show-crews-article-in-protocol.html

And I've written a lot about the severe-weather related show tragedies:
http://controlgeek.net/blog/?category=Show+Safety

I hope we've seen the end of these kind of disasters...

John,

Good advice for weather preparation, but as climate change escalates and production demands for flying progressively larger video backdrops with huge weight and sail area increase annually, the disasters will occur with increasing random regularity.

Spot on, John, and I will now make a shameless plug for the Event Safety Alliance.  They helped sponsor this webinar on weather planning.  https://event.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1029845
