Deployment suggestions
« on: April 01, 2014, 11:14:45 AM »

I am looking for some suggestions for deployment of our qsc Kw rig for a outdoor tent(120x90) event. Bands would be Rock,Reggae, Bluegrass, southern rock.
24x24 stage 3 ft legs.  not sure on audience size

Inventory :o
2 kw153   (60 degree)
2 kw152   (75 degree)
4 kw 122  (75 degree)
3 k10       (90 degree)
7 kw181

Ideally what we want are 2 153's and 4 kw181's per side but we wont have that by the gig.

Here are my 2 thoughts
option 1)
FOH: 153 over 2 181's plus an extra 181 per side  with 152 on a speaker pole on the 3rd sub or on a speaker stand
Aux 1  Kw122
Aux 2  kw122
Aux 3  kw122
Aux 4  kw122
Aux 5 Drum fill k10 over 181
Aux 6  k10 x2
or some variation of this monitor setup depending on band needs

option 2)
FOH: 153 on stage w 152 on speaker stand on stage per side  and 6 subs center clustered
Aux 1  Kw122
Aux 2  kw122
Aux 3  kw122
Aux 4  kw122
Aux 5 Drum fill k10 over 181
Aux 6  k10 x2
or some variation of this monitor setup depending on band needs

what would be the ideal way to splay the  2 sets of mains ?
do you suggest a different setup with the gear provided ?

Can I believe this chart on page 8 ?  kw153 98db at 105 feet   http://qsc.com/files/4713/6278/7541/k-family-app-guide-rental_1.pdf

  • Trust me, it will be loud enough.

How about this: Option 1 Dual PA Variation: Run just vocals thru the KW152s and everything else thru the 153s and 6 subs?

IMO the vox will sound much better thru the 153s than the 152s.

By the way, which side of the tent will the stage be situated?

Tom's right. The 3 way would be much clearer, much better for vocals.

Is the stage on a 120' side or a 90' side of the tent?  Is the stage centered?  Is there seating to either side of the stage?  Does the seating start right in front of the stage or is there some space?  Are you trying to cover the entire tent or primarily a more limited area up front?

I used to be skeptical of the dual pa till I ran a system with two dual 15 cabinets per side.  I did not like the sound or the issues with overlap. I tried the dual pa and the difference was amazing. It made the system sound much better and being able to dedicate a set of speakers and separate eq to vocals made them shine. Highly recommended.

Brad Weber, the stage will be centered on the 90' side of tent , the downstage edge will be about 40' from the tent back wall, so that leaves about a 80' of audience area.  I would like to cover the entire 80' of the tent if possible. I really want to do what sounds the best with the provided gear in the provided environment.
