I'd avoid this just because it's not on a trailer. I mean, in order to transport it, you need to plop it on a truck or flatbed... and cross rentals to other companies become impossible because of that.

I bought an MQ Power WhisperWatt 45kW trailer-mounted genset in 2012, and I make more money renting it to other companies then I do using it on my own events!

5kW/7kW is pretty dang small as well. :-\

If you only need 6.5kw a Honda EU6500iS would be a much better option, though it's more expensive.

It's one of the few gas generators that's considered "safe" for sound gear.

No.  You will regret this purchase.  It's big, loud, heavy with unknown voltage & frequency regulation.

You'd be better off catching the auctions of Volvo Rents or Sunbelt Rental or other generator rental shops that sell off inventory after a certain number of hours or years.  You want a "quiet" unit (extra insulation, muffler, etc) with crystal or microprocessor regulation of freq and voltage.  You don't say what your electrical needs are but I'd suggest starting at 15kW.  Ray's 45kW was a good choice because it's big enough to be useful to other production firms or events when he's not using it.

A MUCH better choice  :)

Yup, plus you'll be able to get parts and tech support from Generec.

I work on MEP series generators every day, if you want one for pro audio, look at any of their generators that start with an 8 (example “MEP 806”) that indicates they are “Tactical Quite” transportable generators. They have proper voltage regulation for communications equipment and are very easy to work on, and fairly lite.
You can get basic parts from Napa (filters, belts, starters etc) but have to order the big stuff from the manufacture and that can get costly, but these things last forever, and it will really push out the rated power and then some.

Check out www.govliquidation.com, sometimes you can find some low hours units that are in good shape for cheap...
