box for uplights...?
« on: February 09, 2014, 09:56:13 PM »

at a recent event, I noticed the lighting guy placed each of his uplights in some sort of box when setting up, so it had a clean, visually pleasing look, along the wall of the banquet room. (instead of the guests looking at the actual black fixture on the floor)  Did not get a chance to find out who did the lighting (we were doing audio only) and I'm wondering if any of you know what I'm talking about.  Or if you can direct me to where I can find out more info...?

thank u cailen, do u happen to have a picture online? if not don't bother with it.  I'd rather buy them than make them, as i'm hoping if I buy they'd be designed to be easily stored...

Hanna, I've done them two ways, but the best is making two vertical sides and a flat base, think half a triangle, if you make it a little oversized they can hide the whole light and they nest.

The ones I've seen most in hotels are the curved ones.  A third moon or half moon.  They can sort of nest but I've seen some pretty big cases to house them so they are separate and don't get too messed up rubbing against each other.  They are decorative after all so keeping them in good shape is kind of the point.

This is a shot of something similar (although these look like they have the tell tale spiral of a sonotube).  http://www.signatureparty.com/images/equipment/lighting/600pix/uplightcovers600.jpg

Arrogance is usually far worse than ignorance. But every once in awhile they swap places.
