For the vast majority of applications i think we're already there.  The sound quality gap has shrunk to a razor's edge, and the features/convenience/cost gap has grown into a chasm.

Well put.

And a few that still use them live.

Dave Rat - Muse, Blink 182, Chilis, and lots more.

For me, if I was working with one band consistently, say on tour, and I had people to move the gear and set up, I would probably take analog with great outboard ...

Desks Iíve used and like are the A&H GL2800/3300, Midas Venice and Verona, Soundcraft. All good consoles. Iíve had the misfortune of mixing on Mackie and Behringer. Horrible.

In the real world, I do the set up, I work for all kinds of random acts,  and often have to deal with 3 or more bands in a night.

Iíll take digital.

Who needs a smartphone when you've got one of these?

Yeah, but:
                * never a dropped call
                * never a dead battery
                * never have to knock the battery out of it, then reboot it so it will work.
                * never a cracked screen from it frustrating you so badly you throw it!!!
                * zero death/dismemberment/disability from use while driving
                * never ass dialed anyone completely by accident
                * never ordered 1 million units of anything from Amazon by accident
                * never mysteriously disabled its own ringer
            The reason cell phones are called smartphones is because "blankety blank
             stupid son of a...blankety blank phone"  was rejected by marketing.  Haw Haw!

        Mobility and self contained ph# list are darn handy though. I'll give you that.That's what has really driven the popularity of cell phones.  Doesn't mean there's not room for improvement though.  I'll be happy to start calling my cell phone a smart phone if it will stop doing stupid things!
